What is the GSA?

The General Services Administration (GSA) is the business manager and purchasing agent for the U.S. Government.   The GSA enters into more than 4 million U.S. Government-wide contracts with private business firms to provide commercial goods and services that federal agencies need.

top

Does the GSA buy a lot?

The GSA processes about $66 billion in financial transactions throughout the government.

top

How big is the GSA?

The General Services Administration employs about 14,000 people and has an annual budget of $16 billion.

top

What is a GSA Schedule?

A GSA Schedule is a contract that allows a vendor to market and sell products and services, at pre-negotiated prices, to the entire Federal Government without the need for extensive competitive bidding.

The Schedule allows companies to sell to the Government in a manner comparable to that used by most businesses. The Federal Supply Service, an agency under the General Services Administration, administers the Schedules.

The Schedule lasts for at least 5 years, and could be used for as much as 10 years!

Can Infrastructure Defense Technologies' Metalith physical security barriers be purchased on a GSA schedule?

Yes, the Metalith barriers can be ordered using GSA Schedule 84   that provides security and law enforcement solutions to the federal and military communities.

What are the GSA Schedule advantages?

There are a number of advantages to both the entities buying using the GSA Schedule and the vendor offering its services through the GSA.   Some include:

  • Immediate start up - The award is based purely on best value to the customer. Orders can be placed in one day, or less.

  • Unlimited ordering size and type - There are no minimum or maximum size limitations imposed on Government Ordering Offices. Orders can be placed as either firm fixed price, or as labor hour or time and materials if time is not easily quantifiable.

  • Best pricing - The GSA has already approved schedule prices as fair and reasonable.   Normally there are special contract provisions for discounts and other pricing options available.   There are no additional "surprise" costs in the GSA rates. The contractor pays all GSA usage fees directly. The published rates represent the maximum rates that agencies will always expect to pay.

  • Multiple orders - For repetitive needs or for agencies with multiple ordering offices, a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) can be established.

What kind of organizations purchase using the GSA schedules?
