Albany Research Center
The Albany Research Center is a U.S. Department of Energy materials research laboratory located in Albany, Oregon. ALRC offers a broad suite of capabilities and expertise in Materials research. Researchers address fundamental mechanisms and processes; melt, cast and fabricate up to 1 ton of materials; completely characterize the chemical and physical properties of materials; and deal with the waste and by-products of materials processes.
Ames Laboratory
Ames Laboratory (Ames) is a national center for the synthesis, analysis, and engineering of rare-earth metals and their compounds. Ames conducts fundamental research in the physical, chemical, and mathematical sciences associated with energy generation and storage. The laboratory is located on the campus of Iowa State University, in Ames, Iowa, and consists of 10 buildings (320,000 gross square feet of space) with the average age of the buildings being 37 years.
Argonne National Laboratory (East)
Argonne National Laboratory - East (ANL-E) in Argonne, Illinois, is a Multiprogram Laboratory located on a 1,700 acre site in suburban Chicago. The laboratory consists of 106 buildings (4.6 million gross square feet of space) with the average age of the buildings being 32 years.
Brookhaven National Laboratory
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is a multi-program national laboratory. Located on Long Island, in Upton, New York, it has a staff of 3,000 scientists, engineers, technicians and support staff; over 4,000 guest researchers annually.
Environmental Measurements Laboratory
The Environmental Measurements Laboratory (EML), a government-owned, government-operated laboratory, is part of the Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). A descendant of the Manhattan Project, EML was established in 1947. The Laboratory advances and applies the science and technology required for preventing, protecting against, and responding to radiological and nuclear events in the service of Homeland and National Security.
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory is the center for research in high-energy and particle physics and constructs and runs large particle accelerators. The laboratory is located in Batavia, Illinois, and consists of 337 buildings.
Idaho National Engineering Laboratory
In operation since 1949, Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's missions in environment, energy, science and national defense.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a Multiprogram Laboratory located on a 200 acre site owned by the University of California that is adjacent to the Berkeley campus of the University of California in Berkeley, California. The laboratory consists of 107 buildings.
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory operated by the University of California. LLNL was founded in September 1952 as a second nuclear weapons design laboratory to promote innovation in the design of our nation's nuclear stockpile through creative science and engineering. Livermore has also become one of the world's premier scientific centers, where cutting-edge science and engineering in the interest of national security is used to break new ground in other areas of national importance, including energy, biomedicine, and environmental science.
Los Alamos National Laboratory
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), as part of the National Nuclear Security Administration, contributes to meeting the nation's nuclear deterrence capability and other security needs.
National Energy Technology Laboratory
The primary mission of the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is to assure that U.S. fossil energy resources can meet increasing demand for affordable energy without compromising the quality of life for future generations of Americans.
National Petroleum Technology Office
The National Petroleum Technology Office (NTPO) is responsible for carrying out the National Petroleum Technology Program (NPTP). Located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the NPTO manages programs in partnership with industry, universities, and national laboratories.
National Renewable Energy Laboratory
The mission of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is to develop renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies and practices, advance related science and engineering, and transfer knowledge and innovations to address the nation's energy and environmental goals. NREL's 300-acre campus is in Golden, Colo.
New Brunswick Laboratory
The New Brunswick Laboratory (NBL) is the Federal government's Nuclear Materials Measurements and Reference Materials Laboratory and the National Certifying Authority for nuclear reference materials and measurement calibration standards. NBL is located on the site of Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) near Chicago.
Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education
The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) is a U.S. Department of Energy facility focusing on scientific initiatives to research health risks from occupational hazards, assess environmental cleanup, respond to radiation medical emergencies, support national security and emergency preparedness, and educate the next generation of scientists.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)is a multiprogram science and technology laboratory. Scientists and engineers at ORNL conduct basic and applied research and development to create scientific knowledge and technological solutions that strengthen the nation's leadership in key areas of science; increase the availability of clean, abundant energy; restore and protect the environment; and contribute to national security. The laboratory's 1,100 acre campus is located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
The mission of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is to deliver science-based solutions to the Department of Energy's major challenges of expanding energy, ensuring national security, and advancing mission-driven science through outstanding staff and R&D capabilities, excellent operations, and high-value partnerships. PNNL is a multiprogram laboratory located on a 960 acre site on the Hanford Reservation near Richland, Washington.
Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory
Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) is a national center dedicated to plasma and fusion science. PPPL has a leading international role in developing the theoretical, experimental, and technology innovations needed to make fusion practical and affordable. PPPL is located at Princeton University.
Radiological & Environmental Sciences Laboratory
The Radiological and Environmental Sciences Laboratory (RESL) provides to the Department of Energy a reference laboratory to conduct key measurement quality assurance programs and provides technical support and quality assurance metrology that is directly traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Its key mission capabilities are in analytical chemistry and in radiation measurements and calibrations. RESL is located in Idaho at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL).
Sandia National Laboratory
Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) developes science-based technologies that support national security. Through science and technology, people, infrastructure, and partnerships, Sandia's mission is to meet national needs in four key areas (1) Nuclear weapons, (2) Nonproliferation and materials control, (3) Energy and critical infrastructure, (4) Emerging threats.
Savannah River Technology Center
The Savannah River Technology Center (SRTC) is recognized as a world-class center of excellence for the development and application of unique and innovative science and technology solutions.
Savannah River Ecology Laboratory
The Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) provides an independent evaluation of the ecological effects of DOE's Savannah River Site operations through a program of ecological research, education, and outreach. SREL is located in Aiken, SC.
Stanford Linear Accelerator Center
Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) is a laboratory dedicated to the design, construction and operation of state-of-the-art electron accelerators and related experimental facilities for use in high-energy physics and synchrotron radiation research. SLAC operates the 2 mile long Stanford Linear Accelerator which began operating in 1966. SLAC is located on 426 acres of Stanford University land in Menlo Park, California, and is also the home of the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL).
Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility
Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF) is a national user facility for nuclear science using continuous beams of high-energy electrons to discover the underlying quark and gluon structure of nucleons and nuclei. TJNAF has 1,600 users, about half of which are actively engaged in experiments at a given time. TJNAF is located in Newport News, Virginia, and consists of 65 buildings.
